Experience the dynamic rebirth of the land with our Billyara Regeneration Mat, a stunning floor mat that depicts the natural process of regeneration from an Aboriginal perspective. The artwork, entitled “Regenerating Resources”, powerfully illustrates how fire transforms the landscape – promoting new growth, vegetation and a rebirth of life. Drawing on thousands of years of Indigenous survival practices, the design celebrates Australia’s unique flora, which has provided food, medicines, dyes, weapons, jewellery, and materials for weaving. The mat symbolises the time-honoured practice of precision back burning, used not only to encourage rejuvenation of the land but also to prevent uncontrollable bushfires.
Handcrafted with a soft polyester velvet cover featuring an elegant black fringe, this mat is exceptionally soft underfoot. It is engineered with a non-slip backing and EVA foam padding for enhanced safety and comfort. Measuring 150cm in diameter, it offers ample space for play, creative activities or quiet reflection in classrooms and community spaces. Billyara, a respected artist from the Wiradjuri tribe whose name is derived from his totem, the eagle, has been painting Aboriginal art for over 20 years and is passionate about imparting traditional knowledge to younger generations. Our mat is designed for careful spot cleaning using a mild detergent – it can be dry or steam cleaned (ensuring complete drying), but must not be machine washed, bleached, tumble dried, ironed or folded; instead, roll with the pattern facing outwards.
