Phase 1

In Phase 1 of 6 in Wushka's phonics program, the focus is on developing phonemic awareness through play-based activities. Phase 1 is typically taught in pre-kindergarten before formal schooling begins, and explores seven different aspects of sound: Environmental Sounds, Instrumental Sounds, Body Percussion, Rhythm & Rhyme, Alliteration, Voice Sounds and Oral Blending & Segmenting. The lessons and progression in Phase 1 are flexible, with instruction able to move in and out of different aspects whilst building and consolidating learning.
