In 2008 FIRST LEGO® League teams from
both Australia and New Zealand will be able to join 92,000 other
children from 43 countries around the world to compete in the international
robotics contest.
The Annual Challenge

The annual challenge is unveiled to FLL teams across the
world in September each year. Over the course of 8 weeks, teams
prepare strategies, design, build, program, test, and refine a fully
autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology.
They also search the web, talk to scientists, visit the library
and develop compelling presentations based on the FLL International
Research Assignment, which relates to a problem or opportunity facing
the world today. No matter what the child’s subject interest,
FLL offers an opportunity for engagement. Guided by a team coach
and assisted by mentors, the kids:
- Research and solve a real-world problem
based on the challenge theme and missions
- Present their research and solutions
- Build an autonomous robot using engineering
concepts
Using the yearly challenge and missions FIRST
LEGO® League, FLL,:
- Entices kids to think like scientists and
engineers
- Provides a fun, creative, hands-on learning
experience
- Teaches kids to experiment and overcome obstacles
- Builds self-esteem and confidence
- Inspires kids to participate in science and
technology
