the Early Years Learning Framework

It is a very exciting time for early childhood education! With the introduction of Australia's first national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) it is a great reason to rediscover and explore the wonders of early childhood and to embrace a curricul um whole heartedly. The framework recognizes the incredible value of investing in the first 5 years of life and also the important role that educators play in early childhood development.

It is a very exciting time for early childhood education! With the introduction of Australia's first national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) it is a great reason to rediscover and explore the wonders of early childhood and to embrace a curriculum whole heartedly. The framework recognizes the incredible value of investing in the first 5 years of life and also the important role that educators play in early childhood development.

The EYLF has considered all aspects of learning and development to extend and enrich children's learning from birth to 5 years and to support them in the transition to school (AGDEEWR, 2009*). This document is a valuable support to empower educa tors to provide quality teaching and learning experiences in early childhood education and care settings (AGDEEWR, 2009*).

Crucial to children's learning within the EYLF is viewing children as active participants and decision makers (AGDEEWR, 2009*) and as a result the education team at Modern Teaching Aids (MTA) have placed this at the core of all resource selectio n criteria. At MTA we are inspired by the experiences of children and educators in early childhood settings, and together in review of the EYLF we have continued to evolve ways to extend and enrich children through play-based learning activities in both the indoor and outdoor environments.

Appropriate resources are essential in creating a stimulating learning environment that allows children to discover who they are, a place that they feel that they belong, be culturally aware, to be motivated to engage with those around them, and to extend their learning by seeking new challenges. Children need opportunities to test how things work, to practice and revisit activities over and over again and to limitless explore. For us this means that resources like never before need to be saf e, unbiased and offer flexibility of use.

To allow children the freedom to explore, we need to be confident in the resources available to them and the environments that are created. We believe that the resources from MTA are going to embrace the joy, freedom and learning that comes from play. After extensive research of the EYLF Learning Outcomes we have carefully chosen resources that embrace the key components of learning.
